| One Way Youth Services staff: Francisco Cisco Gallardo assisted in setting the foundation for gangs in Denver. In his teen years, he joined and help create what has been one of the largest gangs in Denvers north side. Since that time, after facing a possible 48years in prison, he has dedicated his life to undoing the damage he helped cause. By redefining power, pride, and respect and making a commitment to help the Chicano people heal, he has helped countless young people, over the past 12 years, to redefine their own lives through his work in the community. cisco@onewaydenver.com. Joseph JoJo Padilla believed to be Chicano is to be a gangster. Street life called to him and he answered by engaging in behaviors that furthered negative stereotypes about his people. After seeing the damage that drugs and alcohol, violence, and negative cultural influences had on his community, he made a pledge to help young people that are fooled by the same point of view. JoJo has a B.A. in Chicano Studies and has over 10 years experience in the youth services sector. jojo@onewaydenver.com Esteban Baca allowed La Vida Loca to take a large toll on him before changing his life. Facing time in a state correctional facility for gang related activities, he decided positive change was the only path for any type of personal redemption and peace. He made the choice to change before he was even sentenced by contributing his time and energy to local gang intervention groups. After being released, he kept his promise to himself and has returned to his community to finish the positive work he started. esteban@onewaydenver.com |
