“Barrios Unite” Mural Update

Many have been aware that One Way has been working on a mural project for almost a year. Many attempts to place the mural on a wall that would be visible from Federal Blvd. ended up fruitless. We found it to be a very frustrating experience. If the building belonged to an agency, it was hard to get all to agree to what we were trying to do on their property. Many buildings were leased to current occupants from people that did not even live in the state. Others just had no interest and would not return phone calls. So we came up with another idea. We bought wood and paint and built 3 panels on which we would put our mural. The Mayor’s office of Human Rights and Community Relations (Lucia Guzman’s Office, THANK YOU!!) was instrumental in making the next step happen through recent funding for our project. Local artists are going to put our message on the panels. We will then take a picture of the panels and put them on posters advertising our services and a message of Barrio Unity! We are also going to ask principals of local high school to let us hang the 8’x12’ mural in their hallways. Check back for updates on our progress!

“Barrios Unite” Mural

We have begun work on a mural project.  One Way has been working with a student from DU, the Mayor’s Office, Family Star Montessori and many others to make this happen.  Right now we are in the stage of trying to work with Family Star, which has a perfect Federal Blvd.-facing wall, on which we will put a “Barrios Unite” mural.  This is a very important project as there are no murals on the “cruising strip” that send a message of Peace and Barrio Unity to the young Raza.  Watch for future updates to see how this is working out.

One Way Youth Services has great news!

One Way Youth Services has great news!  We have recently been added as a project to the Colorado Non-profit Development Center (CNDC) which means big things for us.  CNDC helps non-profits like ours get off the ground with support and guidance from the startup to the spinoff, so to speak.  They will be our fiscal agents, provide our insurance and give us guidance to grow.  We will begin applying for our own 501(c)3 and grants with their guidance.
